How Portable and Ergonomic Is the Design?
The Nova by Kingtons measures 120 × 28 × 25 mm, the housing is anodised aluminium. The magnetic mouthpiece holds a removable glass filter in the airpath, beneath which sits the ceramic chamber, heated from the base and walls.
A single button controls everything, from switching on to selecting the heat level. The LED indicates heating (red) and ready (blue), and the device also vibrates. The 1,600 mAh battery charges via USB.
What Are the Ideal Temperature Settings?
The Nova has four fixed levels: 190, 200, 210, and 220 °C. The LED glows red during heat-up and switches to blue once the level is reached; the device also vibrates. A session lasts five minutes, after which the Nova shuts off.
190 °C is the flavour level, 220 °C delivers the densest draws. Starting at 200 °C and stepping up one level towards the end of the session gets the most out of the small chamber.
Vapour Quality
The Nova heats by conduction: the ceramic chamber is heated from the base and walls and transfers heat directly to the material. Finely ground and lightly packed, the chamber extracts evenly; coarsely ground, the centre stays paler than the edges — stirring halfway through the session helps in that case.
The vapour is warm and full-bodied, typical of ceramic conduction. The U-shaped cooling system and the glass filter in the magnetic mouthpiece take the harshness away without any water involved.
