Choosing a Vaporizer Battery: A Guide to Approved Specifications and Usage Requirements
Selecting a vaporizer battery begins with the specification explicitly approved for the device. Capacity, form factor, and price alone are insufficient. For an informed purchasing decision, interchangeability, power requirements, charging equipment, and replacement availability should each be considered separately. Cannabis studies cannot substitute for an electrical compatibility check.
Is this about a new device or a replacement battery?
When purchasing a device, the first relevant question is whether the battery is user-replaceable or replaced through an authorised service. With an existing device, the focus is instead on the exact approved replacement specification. These two decisions should not be conflated.
A cell of the same size is not automatically equivalent. Electrical load rating, voltage, contact type, and protection design must all be compatible. Unconfirmed replacement types should not be inferred from a dimensional specification alone.

Which capacity figures are comparable?
Milliampere-hours describe charge; watt-hours describe energy. Voltage is required to convert between them. Even identical energy figures do not automatically produce the same runtime in different devices. Heating power, programme settings and standby all form part of the true energy balance.
Any comparison should therefore explain the conditions under which a runtime was determined. “Up to a certain number of sessions” is not a complete measurement without a definition of what constitutes a session.
What role does the charging equipment play?
Check whether charging takes place inside the device or externally, and which combination of power adaptor and cable is specified. A USB-C port alone does not indicate what charging power is actually used. Using the device while charging is also a separate, explicitly granted permission.
With an external charger, the approved cell type must be unambiguous. The fact that a cell fits in the slot is no substitute for proper technical verification, just as a matching connector is not.
What criteria affect long-term usability?
Useful factors include available spare parts, transparent service terms, and a clear instruction manual. A high initial capacity is only one part of the decision. Repairability and the ability to replace a degraded battery correctly can be equally important in practice.
Blanket guarantees about lifespan or charge cycles are not included here without product-specific evidence. Actual ageing depends on conditions that a general product list cannot fully capture.
How are technical and health-related claims kept separate?

Worked example: capacity, energy and runtime
Units help to distinguish between advertising claims. For a rough energy calculation: watt-hours ≈ ampere-hours × nominal voltage. A hypothetical battery with 3 Ah at 3.6 V therefore yields 10.8 Wh. This is not a measured usable energy figure for a vaporizer: load, cut-off threshold, temperature, ageing and losses all affect the energy actually available.
At a purely theoretical constant power draw of 12 W, 10.8 Wh would be exhausted after 0.9 hours. A vaporizer, however, operates with varying heating power and standby phases. This example must therefore not be converted into a guaranteed number of sessions. It merely illustrates why mAh figures are incomplete without voltage and operating conditions.
Turning a product list into a verifiable comparison

A record with missing information remains flagged as incomplete. A longer manufacturer runtime and a shorter independent test may describe different conditions.
