The cordless heater head: how a session runs
The routine differs from a conventional desktop vaporizer. For heating, the head sits in the 25 mm barrel coil on the docking station. After roughly five minutes of heat soak the rubies have taken on the heat; only then does the head come out and go onto the bowl.
With no coil attached during the draw, the unit moves freely and can be steered over a water piece. Heat now comes purely from the energy stored in the rubies, so the head cools slightly with every pull. Between two sessions, 30 to 60 seconds back in the coil are enough.
Worth setting expectations on: the socket, the PID controller and the docking station stay connected throughout. The WOHW is not a portable device and has no battery.
520 gem-cut rubies and the two sides of the head
The first-generation titanium head holds 520 gem-cut rubies of 3 mm each, according to the maker. They work as a heat store: incoming air picks up their energy during the draw and passes it to the material, with no heating element ever touching the herb.
The head has two usable sides, and the choice shapes the session:
- Injector side — hot air is pushed into the bowl from above. Pure convection, flavour takes the lead.
- Diffuser side — the bowl is warmed from the outside as well. Convection plus conduction gives denser, heavier vapour.
A titanium Matrix bowl is included, holding around 0.4 g, with male glass joints in 14.4 and 18.8 mm. That fits the WOHW to most water pieces — none is supplied. The head also takes the glass injector bowl and the microdose diffuser bowl from the Thermal Twist line.
PID control: what the displayed number means
Temperature is set on the supplied Classic PID controller in 1 °F steps. CrossingTech names 535 °F, about 279 °C, as the starting point; in practice most users work between roughly 279 and 345 °C.
That number describes the target at the coil and the head — not the temperature reaching the herb. During the draw, room air passes through the rubies, the head gives up heat, and the bowl takes further energy out of the stream. The actual extraction temperature therefore sits well below the value you dialled in.
A practical rule follows: comparing the figure directly against a vaporizer that measures chamber temperature will mislead you. Start at the recommended value and adjust by taste.
WOHW V1 or V2? The differences in detail
Both generations share the handling concept, the PID controller, the 25 mm barrel coil, the titanium Matrix bowl and the double-sided head. The V2 is not a new design but a reworked heater head.

What has not changed: the V2 also runs on mains power and carries no battery. If you already own a V1 and are happy with how long a draw lasts, the clearest gain is being able to use bowls from other makers. The WOHW V2 is in the price comparison too.

Only the heater head is. It carries no cable during the draw because it is lifted out of the coil. The PID controller, the coil and the docking station stay plugged in — there is no battery.
About five minutes from cold, so the rubies can take on the heat. Between two sessions, 30 to 60 seconds in the coil are enough.
The V1 uses 520 gem-cut rubies, the V2 round ruby balls in an enlarged chamber — which frees up airflow and stretches each heat-up. The V2 also adds adapters for third-party 22 mm bowls, an XL coil and a choice between SS316 and titanium. The V2 has no battery either.
The supplied titanium Matrix bowl with 14.4 and 18.8 mm male joints and roughly 0.4 g capacity, plus the glass injector bowl and the microdose diffuser bowl from the Thermal Twist line. Bowls with a 22 mm fitment only work from the V2 onwards.
CrossingTech suggests 535 °F, about 279 °C, as a starting point; 279 to 345 °C is the common range. The value describes the coil and the head, not the herb — noticeably less arrives at the material.
