DaVinci IQ3

The IQ3 has a replaceable 4000-mAh battery (standard 21700 cell). A full charge lasts for about 60–90 minutes of active session time, which is around 8–12 chambers at 0.4 g each. Passthrough charging is possible — the device can be used while charging, though with a slightly longer heat-up time.

The replaceable battery is one of the IQ3's strongest advantages compared with fixed-battery models such as the Crafty+ or Solo 3 V2. A pre-charged spare battery in your bag effectively means unlimited runtime on the go. Charging time via USB-C: about 90 minutes from empty to full.

The IQ3 weighs 238 g and measures 109 × 41 × 28 mm — compact, but noticeably heavier than competitors in pen format. The aluminium housing feels premium, the surfaces are matt anodised and barely pick up fingerprints. Available in four colour variants: Onyx, GunMetal, Sapphire and Amethyst.

The magnetic mouthpiece attachment allows quick swapping and cleaning. The LED display at the lower end shows temperature, battery level and session mode. The size just about works for a trouser pocket; a jacket pocket or small carry case feels better.

Before first use, DaVinci recommends running the device at maximum temperature (221 °C) with an empty chamber for 2–3 cycles. This burns off manufacturing residues and reduces the metallic aftertaste of the first sessions. Then fully charge the battery once and establish the Bluetooth connection to the DaVinci app.

Grind the material fine to medium-fine, fill the chamber loosely to the 3/4 mark — do not pack it down. Material packed too firmly reduces airflow and leads to uneven extraction. Set the temperature via the display or the app (recommendation: 185 °C for starting out), press the power button for 1 second — after about 30 seconds the device is ready for use.

The right temperature on the IQ3 determines flavour, vapour density and active-compound profile. Lower temperatures (170–185 °C) emphasise terpenes and deliver mild, aromatic vapour. Higher temperatures (195–210 °C) produce denser clouds and stronger effects. The DaVinci app also allows Smart Path profiles: rising temperature curves over the duration of the session.

The complete air path from the chamber outlet to the mouthpiece is made from Zirconia ceramic. The material is flavour-neutral, heat-resistant far beyond the maximum operating temperature and does not absorb aromas from previous sessions. Unlike stainless steel or aluminium, Zirconia does not impart metallic notes to the vapour.

For purist vapour lovers, this is one of the IQ3's most important advantages — comparable only with glass air paths such as on the Solo 3 V2. Cleaning is easier as a result: residues usually dissolve in isopropyl alcohol without leaving deposits.

The Pearl dosing chamber is DaVinci's solution for clean filling. The Pearl is placed in the chamber and the material is distributed around it — hands stay clean, and dosing remains consistent at about 0.4 g. Those who want to prepare several sessions can use the optional DaVinci dosing capsules: small aluminium capsules that are pre-filled and inserted into the chamber.

Dosing capsules are especially suitable for on the go and for microdosing: packs of 9 can be prepared and transported in a separate storage box. Cleaning the main chamber is significantly reduced as a result, because the material does not come into direct contact with the wall.

The replaceable 21700 battery is one of the IQ3's biggest advantages for heavy users. A fully charged spare battery lasts for 6–8 more sessions without the device needing to be connected to a socket. Changing the battery takes less than 10 seconds — unscrew the cover, swap the cell, carry on.

Important: use only high-quality unprotected 21700 cells (e.g. LG HG2, Samsung 30Q, Sony VTC6). Protected cells with a PCB cap often do not fit into the housing because they are 2–3 mm longer. An external charger (e.g. Nitecore D2, Xtar VC4) significantly extends battery life compared with internal charging and keeps the battery in better condition for longer. Storage of spare batteries: dry, at room temperature, with a protective cap against short circuits.

The free DaVinci app for iOS and Android connects to the IQ3 via Bluetooth Low Energy. Functions: temperature control in 1-degree steps, Smart Paths (four predefined temperature curves plus custom profiles), session timer, boost mode and firmware updates without a cable.

In everyday use, the Smart Paths are especially practical: instead of manually raising the temperature, the device moves independently through the session in 3–4 stages and gradually extracts more active compounds from the material. Anyone who does not want to use the app can manage well with the LED display and four hardware buttons — all core functions are also accessible without a smartphone.

The IQ3 is compatible with water-pipe adapters (WPA). Via a 14er or 18er ground-glass adapter, the vapour can be routed through a bong or bubbler — this cools the vapour further and filters out particles. For extended sessions at higher temperatures (200 °C+), this is a clear comfort gain.

Original adapters from DaVinci fit precisely; third-party providers such as X-Hero or VapoTools offer alternative WPA solutions with different ground-glass sizes. Important: when using a bong, do not fill the water too high so that nothing is drawn back into the vaporizer.

Grind quality has a strong impact on the result with a conduction vaporizer such as the IQ3. A medium to fine grind provides maximum surface area, even heat conduction and dense vapour. Material that is too coarse leads to unvaporized spots, while flour-like dust that is too fine can clog the airflow and causes unpleasant mouth hits.

Recommended tools: a sharp 4-piece grinder (pollen screen optional). Shake briefly before filling so the consistency is even. For especially dry material, a hydration pad in the storage container is worthwhile — herb that is too dry is more likely to burn and tastes harsh.

The IQ3 is better suited to microdosing than most session devices. Via the app, Smart Paths with low starting temperatures (160–170 °C) and short session timers (60–90 seconds) can be created. With the Pearl chamber, a fill of 0.1–0.15 g is enough for 2–3 gentle draws without the material being completely vaporized in one session.

Advantage over pen vapes: the LED display shows the current temperature precisely, and the replaceable battery allows several short mini-sessions spread throughout the day. Anyone planning microdosing over several days benefits from dosing capsules — pre-filled at 0.15 g each, sessions can be reproduced consistently.

The IQ3 has a Zirconia air path that is odour-neutral and easy to clean. The Pearl dosing system makes it possible to fill the chamber without direct contact with the material. After each session, loose material should be removed; for deeper cleaning, a pipe cleaner soaked in isopropyl alcohol (at least 90 %) is sufficient in the air channel.

The stainless-steel mouthpiece and magnetic contacts can be cleaned in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid — not in the dishwasher. DaVinci recommends a full clean every 10–20 sessions, depending on fill quantity and material consistency. Dosing capsules make maintenance much easier and significantly reduce deposits in the chamber area.

Cleaning schedule

Vaporizers release significantly less smell than burning material, but they are not completely odour-neutral. With the IQ3, residual odour can be minimised: choose lower temperatures (170–185 °C), set short session lengths and tap out the chamber after every session before the device cools down — spent material in the hot chamber smells more intense.

Practical aids: an activated-carbon odour-filter sploof (homemade or as a Smokebuddy) for exhaled air, and an airtight storage container for the remaining material. When storing the device, the original pouch or a small silicone storage case is sensible so that any residue in the chamber does not release odour into a backpack.

The IQ3 is well suited to travel. Within the EU, the empty device can be transported in hand luggage without problems — the only important point is that the battery is accessible (lithium-ion cells up to 100 Wh are allowed in hand luggage, but not in checked luggage). The IQ3's 21700 battery is well below this limit at about 14 Wh.

Recommended travel setup: 1× IQ3 + 2× charged spare batteries + Pearl tool + one 9-pack of pre-filled dosing capsules. The whole lot fits into a case about the size of a pair of glasses. DaVinci provides a 10-year warranty on the IQ3 for the heating element and electronics. Wear parts such as the battery, seals and mouthpiece are excluded. For claims, the device goes directly to DaVinci USA or the European service partner — processing typically takes place within 2–4 weeks.

Lifespan tips: replace the battery every 6–12 months (capacity decreases), replace mouthpiece seals when wear is visible, handle the Zirconia air path carefully (avoid cracks or impacts — ceramic is hard, but brittle). With careful handling, a service life of 5+ years is realistic.

Most problems with the IQ3 can be solved without sending it in for service. Difficult draw? Clean the chamber and air path, if necessary remove the mouthpiece and check the screen. Not heating up? Check the battery (voltage at least 3.3 V) and clean the contacts. App cannot find the device? Turn Bluetooth on the smartphone off and on, and if necessary carry out a firmware update.

For error messages on the display: note the code and look it up in the DaVinci online documentation. E1/E2 codes usually indicate heating-element problems, E3 battery problems. If E1 repeats despite a new battery, sending it in for service makes sense. Tip: before every service enquiry, update the firmware to the latest version — many problems disappear through this alone.

The IQ3 ecosystem is extensive. Original accessories from DaVinci include dosing capsules (9-pack), Pearl spare parts, cleaning sets, travel cases and WPA adapters. Third-party manufacturers such as X-Hero, VapoTools and 157Grad offer further options — from water-filter bubbler adapters to coloured glass mouthpieces.

The IQ3 and the IQC share the housing, heating block and Zirconia air path. The decisive difference: the IQ3 includes Bluetooth and the DaVinci app, while the IQC does without them and is therefore cheaper.

The app enables precise temperature curves (Smart Paths) and viewing usage statistics. Anyone who uses these functions regularly will prefer the IQ3. Anyone who would rather simply switch on and vape gets identical vapour quality with the IQC at a lower price. Both devices use the same replaceable 21700 battery and the same Pearl dosing system.
