How to Use - Getting Started for the Herborizer XL. You can find the complete overview on the main page.
How to Use - Getting Started
The Herborizer XL is a pure convection desktop vaporizer built on a glass-on-glass principle. No display, no app, no electronics in the vapor path - just glass, hot air, and a water pipe. The heating element sits externally on a stand and heats the air you pull through the glass attachment.
1. Setup and Connection
Place the heating element stand on a stable, flat surface. Connect it to a water pipe (14 mm or 18 mm joints fit directly). Plug in the power cable. The Herborizer XL runs on mains power only - no battery, no portability. Fill the water pipe with enough water to cover the diffuser slits.
2. Preheat
Turn on the heating element and set the temperature dial to your preferred level. There's no digital display - you go by the dial position and experience. Preheat time is about 5 minutes. Let the element heat up fully before your first draw - starting too early gives you warm air with no vapor.
3. Load the Herb Holder
Use the glass bowl (herb holder). Grind your herbs medium-coarse - pure convection needs coarser material so hot air can flow through freely. Fill the bowl loosely, about two-thirds full at most. Place the loaded bowl onto the preheated element.
4. Draw Technique
Draw slowly and steadily from the water pipe. Hot air flows through the herbs, vaporizes the active compounds, and gets cooled by the water. Each pull should last 8-12 seconds. Drawing too fast produces almost no vapor because the air doesn't get enough contact time with the material. A single bowl typically lasts 5-8 solid draws.
5. After Your Session
Turn off the heating element and let it cool down - this takes a few minutes. Remove the glass bowl from the element and tap out the spent material. The glass rinses easily under warm water. Once a week: soak all glass parts in isopropyl alcohol and rinse thoroughly. Empty and rinse the water pipe after every session.
5 Common Beginner Mistakes
- Packing the bowl too tight - Blocks airflow completely. Fill loosely, the herbs should move freely.
- Not preheating long enough - 5 minutes sounds like a lot, but a cold element just blows hot air. Patience pays off.
- Drawing too fast - Convection needs contact time. Slow, calm draws produce far more vapor.
- Using the water pipe without water - Without water, the vapor is extremely hot. Water cooling isn't optional, it's a must.
- Grinding too fine - Fine material clogs the glass bowl. Medium-coarse is ideal for pure convection.
